Believe it or not, mostly everyone has experienced something at one time or another, a brief moment where they have tried to style or cut their own hair or cut someone else’s hair. Cutting hair is often a universal skill that are available literally ALL around the world, especially if realize how to cut all textures of hair.
I am a licensed Master Barber with over 23 years of barbering experience. I am very thankful for discovering the craft and I am very excited to give you the chance to share with everyone the proper information on how to become a barber. First of all, have got to ask yourself:
“Why do you want to be a barber?” I want to to become a barber for the independence, flexibility, the people you meet, the income, the diversity and more. The reason I say ask yourself this question is because a lot of people THINK they want to become barbers and then everything doesn’t happen like they thought they would and then they want to stop along with pursuing other ventures. Your reason for wanting to become a barber has to be so strong enough that you simply won’t let any regarding negativity or doubt come into your mind and prevent you from becoming a barber.
After you have figured the actual “why”, the other step would find a school or local barbershop to apprenticeship period. If you choose to go to school, these types of earn your license by attending school for 9 months to two years. The number of time that it takes for you to finish school would depend upon if you’re to school full time or as a hobby. Once you could have completed your hours and passed the exam, Turmoil IS Home!!
If you decide on an apprenticeship, make sure it can be an established barbershop location so that you are not wasting your. The person you work under in order to the owner. The owner will most likely not bail on you talk about some soon. Barber employees come and go too frequently to risk an apprenticeship under these businesses. If you work under the owner, your odds of might viewed as a little bit greater for success as an apprentice. I was lucky and worked underneath a stable barber. But he too eventually left the shop, assure before I finished and never have to.
Apprenticeship programs are not at all times free. Sometimes the barber you work under may charge you a weekly fee. After all, he paid for license on top of that. Make sure the charge is feasible. $25-$50 a one particular week. Also make sure you keep copies of your own transcripts in case the Master Barber actually starts to have an adjustment of heart because of jealousy. Sometimes when your clientele sets out to pick up or your abilities start to obtain better, the actual Barber are certain a little jealous. So be careful and not try too hard to outshine the master! HA HA HA!!!!!!
Starting out, commission may be the best until you can build up a customer. Commission is once the owner turns into a split on every haircut that you cut. For example, if for example the haircut is $10, and also the split is 60/40. He will get $4.00 (40%) and you will get $6.00 (60%). This is wonderful when an individual just getting started and you might be trying produce a inventory. Now once your split on the owner passes $200 full week (50 haircuts a week),you need to request booth rental. At 50 haircuts a week on a 60/40 split, the owner makes $200(less products) and also make $300. But don’t forget, if are on commission, the owner is supposed to supply you with associated with your supplies. But it comes a point in commission structure when visitor to your site it is not worth paying more than $300-$500 full week in commission rate.
Commissions keeps a barber to the hip of the owner. Booth rental is fantastic smoother. Virtually the time, when you spend for a booth, currently employed when you want to very long as as you meet your weekly booth rental quota and that’s it. Booth rent should handle things lower and increase using a 3-6 month period. A reasonable booth rental starting out is $100.00 week. Some shops charge as almost as much as $300.00 7 days. You can make $2,000 full week and only have to pay $150.00 to $300.00 a week, and also take home about $1,500 to $1,700 and you are receiving. If help to make $2,000 1 week on a commission structure, you keep 60% which about $1,000 to $1,200.
When going into a new shop, don’t be over irritated. You have to make sure how the shop will be going to a good fit anyone and your own are desiring to go. Some barbers prefer to cut white hair, some barbers prefer to cut black hair, a few barbers want diversity. But at finish of the day, at this point what is truly great about our barber industry!! Will need to choose to pursue it, it almost all up for. I Think itrrrs great!!
Unless in order to going to be able to working for that major corporation, don’t have high expectations as far as the structure of most barbershops. Are going to find a terrific barbershop maybe 1 out of 50. While i say great, I mean the lease is paid on time, the light bill pays on time, the water is hot, the heat and a/c works, the owner is not sparatically increasing booth rental, you have supplies to market for extra income, health plan, customer service, nice decor, clean atmosphere and anything else that can be a benefit. I simply gave you an example of maybe 1 shop regarding 50 which be structured this way.
The bad shops could have management problems if there any manager at all, lights are going to shut removed from time to time, no hot water, no heat or a/c, the landlord is always stopping by for rent, customers are not happy, barbers are fighting, booth rent is not consistent, the barbershop may be filthy and the list proceeds and towards.
So please choose accurately. Go in and get a haircut or send someone in to obtain a haircut before you apply for work. Don’t let the owner know you must be a barber until you have experienced how he runs his professional.
